MW4 Prestige splits into Classic and Regular — Activision’s Oct 19 blog
55 Multiplayer levels. A separate 70-level DMZ track. First time in Call of Duty you pick Classic (reset, 20% XP) or Regular (keep unlocks) every Prestige.

This is not the DMZ start-time brief. Activision published the career map on October 19: Multiplayer levels, a separate DMZ track, two Prestige paths, Weapon Prestige, and the camo grind. The blog itself points camo XP at DMZ Early Access on October 20 for digital pre-orders. Full Multiplayer is still October 23.
Two level tracks
Multiplayer Career runs Level 1 (Private I) to Level 55 (Commander). Weapons, Equipment, Perks, Field Upgrades, and Killstreaks sit on that ladder. DMZ has its own Level 1–70 track — FOB stations, printer recipes, Survival Kits, Fire Support — fed only by DMZ XP. DMZ XP also counts toward the 1–55 Career. Multiplayer and Warzone XP do not count toward the DMZ ladder. Warzone does not read MW4 level unlocks until Season 1.
Classic or Regular, every Prestige
At Level 55 you pick a path. You pick again at every Prestige after that. Ten Prestige levels, then Prestige Master through Level 1,000.
- Classic Prestige: resets level unlocks and Create-a-Class progress. Pays a 20% XP boost, one Permanent Unlock Token, and extra cosmetics.
- Regular Prestige: restarts at Level 1 but keeps every level unlock and Create-a-Class item.
Most Prestige rewards are shared. Classic gets the bonus variants. Prestige 1 is themed on the original Call of Duty (2003): the Sandstorm Operator Skin is the instant reward. At Prestige 1 Level 50, Regular gets the Mosin-Nagant blueprint “The Vet”; Classic gets “The Vet Prime.” Each later Prestige is themed on a different Infinity Ward title, through Prestige 10 on Modern Warfare 4 itself.
Activision’s own token advice: spend Permanent Unlocks on Perks, Field Upgrades, Killstreaks, and Equipment before weapons. A Store or Battle Pass Weapon Blueprint already makes that base gun permanent for the rest of the Prestige climb.
Camos, Weapon Prestige, and what starts today
Military Camos are tied to Weapon Level, eight of them, per gun. Special Camos are unique, then dump into a shared pool. Gold / Platinum / Harmonic Break / Divergence sit on top of that. Mastery Camos split by mode. The blog’s example on the HAN 86: Military Camo 1 at Weapon Level 10, through Military Camo 8 at 65, on a 72-level gun. Other weapons use different thresholds. Special-camo kill counts are higher in DMZ because AI targets count.
Weapon Prestige is optional after a gun hits Max Level. It resets that weapon’s level and attachments except Apex Attachments and blueprint attachments, and it does not strip shared attachments off other guns. The four Weapon Prestige camos are all versions of “Pyroclast.”
Same Activision account that played the Modern Warfare II DMZ Beta also picks up calling-card and emblem sets starting October 20: participation, 50 hours, and Serpentine camo. If the accounts do not match, those sets miss you.
