Who it’s for

  • People who already navigate on a phone or watch and want a small Iridium SOS/messenger.
  • Pack-weight sensitive trips. Amazon/Garmin: compact unit, TracBack, digital compass, Garmin Explore sync.

Who should skip

  • Anyone who refuses a subscription — satellite features do not work without a plan.
  • Users who want a real mapping screen — that is the GPSMAP 67i job.

Sourced facts

  • Marketing battery: up to 14 days in 10-minute tracking. Garmin’s own manual is more honest: 14 days full sky / about 4 days moderate tree cover in that mode; 5 days / 2 days if you also record high-detail activity.
  • IPX7; USB-C. Third-party “plan price” tables online go stale — check Garmin’s current airtime page.

Verdict

Worth it as a dedicated SOS/text brick if you accept airtime cost and sky-view battery reality. Not a replacement for a mapping handheld.
