Review: Fortnite Season 3 first impressions
A mobility season with a real map, not just a new mythic. That is rarer than it should be.

First impressions after two weeks and the 33.20 patch. Season 3 is good. It is not a revolution. It is the first season in a while where the island, not the mythic, is the main character.
What works
- The coastal pois have loot and a rotate. That should be table stakes. It has not been.
- Kinetic Sling is a movement item with a restriction in late Ranked. Someone at Epic has been yelled at, correctly.
- The shotgun pass in 33.20 stopped the one-click reset. Fights last a second longer. That second is the season.
What does not
Grand Bazaar is still a trailer poi. The battle pass has three pages of filler before the first pickaxe anyone will use. Creative advertising in the lobby is louder than the season trailer, which is a sentence I wish I did not have to write.
Verdict
Play it. Land Tidewell. Ignore the bazaar. If Epic keeps the late-game sling ban in Ranked, this is the best Fortnite has felt since the last time they remembered that moving around the map is the game.
