Fortnite patch 33.20 breakdown: mobility, shotguns, and Ranked

The mid-season patch is a mobility patch first. Shotguns second. Ranked third. Read it in that order.

Epic shipped v33.20 on August 26. The headline is a new dash item. The real story is that they finally slowed shotgun time-to-kill in close range without gutting the pump identity. If you only read one section, read mobility, then the shotgun table.

Mobility

The Kinetic Sling is a floor loot item with two charges. It is a short horizontal dash, not a launch pad. You cannot sling out of the storm for free. You can sling through a window, off a ramp, or out of a box before the second shotgun pellet lands. That is the whole point.

  • Two charges, 14-second recharge per charge.
  • No vertical boost. If you try to sling up a cliff, you just look silly.
  • Disabled in the last two storm circles in Ranked. Pubs keep it to the end.

Shotguns

  • Havoc Pump

    nerf

Headshot multiplier 2.25 → 2.05. Pellet count unchanged.

  • Gatekeeper

    nerf

    Pull-out time 0.25s → 0.31s. Body shots unchanged.

  • Sentinel Pump

    buff

Reload 1.9s → 1.65s. Quiet buff for the people still carrying it.

The Havoc is still the close-range pick. It just stops winning every fight on the first click. Gatekeeper players will feel the pull-out more than the numbers suggest — that 60ms is the difference between a clean piece and a trade.

Ranked

Ranked buses now avoid the new canyon POI for the first two minutes of a match, which is a matchmaking note dressed up as a map note. Epic is trying to stop 20-player contested drops on one named location. It will help Unreal lobbies. It will not help your Gold games.

Cosmetic and Festival notes are in the official post. We skipped them on purpose. If a skin changes your win rate, we will be the first to apologize.
